Nine Realms Midgard Village Tileset

Welcome to Midgard, the Middle World.

This is the land of humans, mortals of incredible variety and passion whose short lives are defined by conflict, struggle, and scarcity. But they are also defined by courage, honor, and resilience. These traits give humans an edge in their own world and their villages will soon spread from horizon to horizon... what might we find there?

This asset pack is for creators looking to work in the fantasy genre but with the aesthetic of Norse mythology (vikings!) as a primary influence.

The pack includes both upscaled RPGmaker compatible sheets with autotiling functionality as well as an alternate version at native size. The pack is top-down perspective and scaled at 16x16 by default. This pack can be used in just about any game engine, though creators may need to make modifications to the size and orientation of sheets. It also includes fully RPGmaker (MV/MZ) compatible sheets that plugnplay with RPGmaker's native resource importer.

Inside, you'll find everything you need to make village and outdoor scenes with a spring/summer seasonal theme. The pack mixes together the warm colors and slightly bleak vibes of the comfy52 palette by bess.

NOTE: Be sure to have a look at both sets of files, as there may be useful alternates that you can modify yourself as needed!

What Does It Include?

This pack includes:

  • Variety of ground, building, roof, and wall tiles for exterior scenes.
  • Variety of props for both outdoors (rocks, trees, etc) and village scenes (building decor, tools, light source, etc).
  • RPGmaker Compatible versions incl. autotiling
  • Prefab Large building to act as barns, longhouses, etc
  • A PNG showing an improvised alphabetical version of Futhark runes, so you can make your own signs and runic props!

RPGmaker Compatibility

The pack is set up as follows:

A2 - Ground Autotiles (water, grass, dirt, stone)

A3 - Building Wall Autotiles (8 styles, 2 variants for each)

A4 - Natural Wall Autotiles (rock and dirt)

B - Terrain Decor (trees, rocks, etc)

C - Roof Tiles (all roofs are angled but can be extended into any size you want)

D - Large Prefabs

E - Village Decor (objects, furniture, tools, etc)

For RPGmaker MZ, the additional layers make this easy to use but you may need to mix and match elements for earlier RPGmakers to fit what you need onto one tilesheet. I have also left a lot of room on these for additions and variants.

Will There be Updates?

Yes! In the weeks to come, I'll be updating this pack to include seasonal versions of all relevant tiles/objects. Buying this at any point will guarantee you access to, technically, at least 2 additional versions of most assets included here.

There will also be an update in the near future to include some interior tiles to make it easier to build both exterior and interior scenes for your game using these assets!

UPDATE 1:

Finally, the interior tiles and props are available to all who purchase or have purchased this pack. Apologies for the long delay.

Pictured with other screenshots are two mock-ups showing off many of the tiles and props including how variant walls, floors, etc work.

These interior tiles have been set up to plug and play with RPG Maker MZ but should work with other RPG Maker and game making programs.

Contact & Support

I am open to suggestions and feedback and am quick to respond to comments here. I am always looking forward to seeing what YOU make with my assets.

I am best reached through email: hedgewizardgame@gmail.com or by commenting right here on itch. Especially if I don't check my email enough!  You can find me on tumblr where I post art almost daily, focused mostly on my indie game The Hedge Wizard. I make other art as side projects or for fun. Any time I really get a bug to make game assets outside of my own projects and commissions, I'll probably put them on itch! If you'd like to commission my work or are simply curious to see more of it, please check out my tumblr or my Artstation page. I usually appreciate feedback, so please feel free to comment.

Hi Evan, just sent you a mail to  your gmail! Have been using your assets for some weeks and would love to ask you for some more! More info on the mail!

I somehow missed this! Hahaha!

Are these interchangeable with your cybercity pack? in terms of the npcs being the same and items working on the map in the same size ratio?

For the most part, yes. The “style” is basically the same, just with a different color palette. The presentation or packaging, however, is different. The Nine Realms stuff has been made so far to be plugnplay w/ RPGmaker MV/MZ, so the way spritesheets are arranged is set up for that. The Retro Cybercity packs are more general-purpose with spritesheets that you are more likely to have to slice a little if you’re using specific engines or software.

Does that make sense? The answer is pretty much yes, but you may need to do a little rearranging on the sheets. If you don’t know how to do that, I can help you out.

Yes I understand, thanks, you could use that tileset as a person in a village and then gets transported to cyberpunk world.

I bought your cyberpunk pack its very worth it and I cant wait to see how it grows.

And if you have a patreon or something taking requests for little additions.

(+1)

I have given a Patreon or Ko-Fi some thought for sure. I may get one or both going sometime soon.

I appreciate your purchase very much! And I’m glad you like it! There will be a lot more packs in the future. At least two more, one a character pack and the other tiles, before Xmas I think.

I like the idea of mixing the two up for a scifi-fantasy crossover. Very cool.
